The Recession and Life Purpose

I don't know about you, but I have found it to be incredibly liberating to pretty much eliminate news media, TV, and other sources of mostly negative information from my life. From what I can gather, the news is focusing a lot on the economy these days, as I hear many of my patients and colleagues discussing the woes of this current time and how we have to 'weather the storm' by tightening our budgets, working more, and just getting through it.

Frankly, I believe it is a choice whether we want to buy into the negativity around the economy or not. Yes this may sound idealistic, but what I hear time and again is that many people are assuming that the current economic situation is actually a solid reality that is taking place 'out there.' Don't forget, your perception of any given situation will determine its meaning and ultimately whether it's liberating or imprisoning. If you perceive yourself as stuck in a bad economy, without choices, and fundamentally powerless to initiate change for the good, then guess what's going to show up?

What if you simply decided that you weren't going to partake in the recession, that your belief system and your actions are only aligned with qualities such as abundance and generosity? Idealistic? Far fetched? Not when you see how powerful your mind actually is. You get to decide whether you live in a benevolent and giving universe or if you live in one that can't be trusted, where you have to fend for yourself. The media feeds off of our lack of trust in the universe. We are hit from many angles with the belief that we should try to protect ourselves and just survive.

Life purpose is basically a practice of being fully alive now, which has a lot to do with accessing and then expressing your innate power as a human being to initiate a life of abundance and freedom regardless of outside circumstances. I encourage you to drop any tendency toward being victimized by the mortgage crisis, unemployment rate, or the rising costs of gas and food. Instead of focusing on this stuff (what you don't want), put your focus on what you do want, on the attributes you possess and the events in your life that inspire and uplift you. Never forget that what you focus on expands.

Now, what would happen if 200 million people in our country all of the sudden put their focus on the deepest, most purposeful and helpful aspects of their being and took their focus off of their fear around the economy? Once again, it all starts on an individual level. If you do this, then you will become a source of inspiration for others to do it as well. This is the starting point of what's needed to revolutionize our current economic and political system.
